De Dos Lados
"two-sided"
In recognition and celebration of Latin American artists and their contributions to US culture and literature, Toyon presents:
De Dos Lados
Volume 67 - Special Theme
Mainstream media depictions of Latin America and Latinx people are often charged with xenophobia and reductive tropes. De Dos Lados translates to “two-sided” or “from two sides”. As people, we are always complex or “multi-sided” in literal and abstract ways. We occupy several (sometimes conflicting) roles, identities, and experiences simultaneously. Toyon looks forward to seeing which sides you share with us and we encourage multilingual submissions! While volume 67 is open to submissions related to any topic, the editorial staff will give special consideration to works within this theme.
The following list is meant to provide inspiration in relation to our theme.
Here are some prompt questions for inspiration too.
Submit Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry, Spoken Word/Multimedia, Art and Visual Texts, Critical Analysis Essays—at www.toyonliterarymagazine.org. $100 awards in each genre.
****No hateful/oppressive language or imagery****
