MULTIMEDIA & WEB TEAM
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To provide a robust multimedia online experience for visitors to Toyon’s social media and our website (www.toyonliterarymagazine.org). To increase the visibility of the magazine and website. To generate funding sources and a network of supporters that will enable Toyon to grow for years to come.
MEASURABLE GOAL: To steadily increase the amount of quality content available on www.toyonliterarymagazine.org (including number of pages and links and number of audio/video texts available). To steadily increase traffic to the Toyon social media accounts, website, and content downloads on BePress.

Multimedia & Web Team Lead / Toyon Archivist
- Provides leadership of the Multimedia and Web Team. Facilitates team meetings. Checks that delegated tasks have been completed by team members. Follows up with team members as needed.
- Develops and implements a Toyon archive project to serve as a snapshot of our work for that year in consultation with the faculty advisor and Cal Poly Humboldt Special Collections Librarian Carly Marino.
- Collects artifacts and ephemera of Toyon’s work throughout the year for inclusion in the Toyon archive at Cal Poly Humboldt Special Collections.
- Coordinates with the social media and web team to update our linktree to include submission resources, current and past projects, and positive press.
- Serves as the Toyon photographer and documentarian. Takes photos that document our work. Posts photos to the designated shared folder in Google Drive.
- Keeps a research log in Google Drive for future archive editors.
- Makes suggestions about how to edit and revise the Toyon website.
Lead Editor, Spoken Word, Audio & Multimedia
- Generates an advertisement tailored specifically to solicit spoken word and multimedia submissions.
- Ensures that the call for submissions is advertised in all relevant contexts, such as art classes and local community art organizations and studios. Seeks out local and global opportunities to advertise the call for spoken word, audio, and multimedia submissions. Coordinates with local spoken word clubs, event facilitators, and organizations to solicit submissions. Participates in local slam events, on and off campus, and advertises Toyon there.
- Plans and facilitates at least one open mic spoken word event on campus in the fall semester. Past events have included a Halloween-themed "Spooken Word" and an Open Mic event as part of the Campus and Community Dialogue on Race (CCDOR).
- Generates a scoring rubric for spoken word and multimedia submissions to the magazine, in consultation with staff.
- Oversees the scoring, selection, and curation of spoken word/audio submissions.
- Sends selected video content, title of the work, closed captioning or a typed script, and the performer's name and contact information to the faculty advisor for posting.
- Selects the recipient of the award in the spoken word and multimedia category, in consultation with the staff.
- Researches how other literary journals manage audio and video content
Social Media Manager
- Posts weekly updates to all social media platforms. In these posts, advertise the call for submissions, highlight aspects of Toyon’s work, promote upcoming events, update readers about the production schedule process, etc.
- During the outreach and advertising stage (August-September), coordinates with the community liaison and editorial team to post staff generated advertisements online.
- In collaboration with the faculty advisor, publishing fellow, and webmaster, provides suggestions about www.toyonliterarymagazine.org. Checks that all links on the website are working.
- Develops new content for the Toyon website and promotes that content through social media.
- Serves as the Toyon photographer alongside the Toyon Archivist. Takes photos that document our work. Posts photos to the designated shared folder in Google Drive.
- Researches other literary journals’ uses of social media, discussing the marketing and promotions best practices for literary journals.
